Good Advice at Senior Parent Night

Good Advice at Senior Parent Night

| On 03, Oct 2016

On September 29, 2016, Hudson Catholic held a senior parent meeting in the cafeteria, hosted by the school guidance counselors. The purpose of the meeting was to inform senior parents about college options for their children.

Guidance Counselors Ms. Jill Awad and Ms. Renee Johnston presented information about financial aid and the application process that families should know. Ms. Johnston also offered her advice about the danger of putting sports above academic when it comes to college selection.

“Don’t let the division of a school be the body and soul of your choice,” Johnston said. “Coaches do look at the build of your child. Not all students will make it to play at the college level, so pick education over athletics.”

The counselors also presented information about scholarships and application fee waivers. Johnston gave great advice to every senior that night.

“Go where the money is! You may have a dream college now, but when you’re 30 years old and still receiving bills, you’re going to hate it,” Johnston joked.

Ms. Awad brought up the dangers of the black hole of this generation: social media. Both counselors suggested that students be careful about what they post on social media because colleges are looking at what is posted.

“If you don’t want your mother to see it, then you don’t want the administration office to see it, so don’t post it,” Johnston said.

This informative night was a great first step in helping the class of 2017 get ready for the rest of their lives.
