Spirit Week 2019

Spirit Week 2019

| On 19, Nov 2019

Spirit week of 2019 was held from October 21 to October 25. It is an event in which is done every year as apart of Hudson Catholic tradition. Students can express themselves through clothing as opposed to wearing school uniforms every day. This occasion showcases school spirit from sports as well as students of each grade.

On October 21 was pajama day. Students were allowed to wear comfortable pajamas during classes whether it was a onesie or regular pajama pants with a shirt. “It was nice to wear comfortable clothing to school,” said sophomore Xochilt Turijan. She wore a pajama shirt with matching plaid pants.

The next day was jersey day. On this day, students were allowed to wear a jersey of their favorite team. Students may bond through similar interests of a specific team with this occasion. They could represent a team that they enjoy or even wear a jersey of their own. However, there was a miscommunication. “The one thing I would change about spirit week would be not to have last-minute changes. At the last minute, jersey day got turned into a dress down day,” Max Fernandez stated.

The following day was decades day. Each class was to wear a specific fashion of clothing depending on whichever time era their class got assigned. During this event, students had the liberty to wear clothes from the decade of their class. However, this day of spirit week was some students’ least favorite day. Sofia Gellada quotes, “In decades day, I didn’t want to be given a decade; I want wanted to pick whatever I could wear.”

The next event and the most enormous was the walk-a-thon (or Hawk-a-thon). Each class was to wear a color to represent their grade. This year freshmen were to wear white, sophomores green, juniors purple, and seniors pink. Students were to walk to Lincoln Park as a unit and were allowed to spend time with their friends once they got there. This event was most students’ favorite since they were not in classes. Junior Marquis Rudder explained, “Everyone has a chance to go outside and be around people that they care about.” It was a very relaxing and laid back day since there were no classes.

The final day of spirit week, held on Friday, October 25, was the pep rally. Students had shortened classes and had to report to the gym. Each sports team of that season came out and were greeted with a roaring crowd. Samantha Fernandez, a sophomore soccer player said, “Each team was supported and hollered at, which showed the essence of school spirit.” There were activities followed up after the teams came out. There was musical chairs and teacher versus student trivia with questions asked by students.

Overall, this week was a success. Many students enjoyed showing their school spirit.
