Hudson Catholic defeated St. Peters Prep 74-55 in the Hudson County Tournament Championship on February 27, 2016. Our Hawks saw a big night from Marion Williams, Luther Muhammad, and Jahvon Quinerly as they combined for 66 points to ensure the victory. This marks the fifth consecutive Hudson County Tournament championship that the boys basketball team has won.
Marion Williams was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, as he contributed 13 points and eight assists on the night. His teammate Luther Mohammad, who was also up for the honors, poured in a game-high of 30 points, while Quinerly scored 23 points. Marion Williams in an interview with the Jersey Journal said, “Tonight’s performance was very relieving. I’m just happy we didn’t play like we did on Tuesday.” Williams was referring to the 55-53 buzzer-beating win against Snyder. “We came out, played hard, and beat them by 19 points.”
As the basketball team celebrates their well-deserved county championship, their focus now turns to winning that elusive state championship. Though they were defeated last year by St. Anthony’s 58-45 in a heartbreaker, the Hudson Catholic community has full faith that they can go on a magical run and bring back home what is rightfully theirs.
