Dropped at last!
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero was released on October 7th! In just that day, it already sold more than 3 million copies. Dragon Ball fans have been waiting for this game for around 17 years to drop, so it’s safe to say that every Dragon Ball fan is extremely excited about this release! The game has been out for a month or so, and so far, it has a pretty good review count.
You might have already seen this game on social media, as it’s been a highly expected game to release for a while, but is the game any good? Let’s see what the game has to offer.
What the game offers:
The game offers multiple game modes, ranging from a story mode, tournament, online battle, 1 on 1s, and 3 on 3s. There are a whopping 182 characters in the entire game, with more to come in the near future. Multiple characters like Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, Cell, etc. are all in the game, for free! Some cutscenes in the game aren’t so great, but I feel like the game makes up for it with its extremely high speed battles. It definitely feels like a Dragon Ball game.
This game also has a “what if story” feature. The feature is something that changes how some characters act in the story. For example, one what if in the game is about Goku turning Super Saiyan against Vegeta, instead of Frieza. I find it pretty cool.
Is the game fair to newcomers?
I wouldn’t really say it’s that fair to newcomers. It might take a day or two to finally get adjusted to the game’s controls. But I wouldn’t say it isn’t fair to newcomers, but old players of the Sparking series have found this game to be challenging at times. Players on social media were having trouble with the first big enemy of the game, Great Ape Vegeta. I myself took around half an hour to beat him.
But, once you learn more of the game’s controls, it is definitely much more fun.
Conclusion
As a Dragon Ball fan myself, I am extremely satisfied with this release. But, with my bias aside, I would give this game around a 7/10. I hope it wins a nomination at The Game Awards at least. It is definitely an expensive game. This game has 3 editions, normal, deluxe, and ultimate. The normal edition costs around $70, the deluxe edition costs around $100, and the ultimate edition costs around $110. I bought the ultimate edition for 3 days early access, and I had fun. I would say that this was definitely a hit release, and I can’t wait to see this game’s future.
