Larry Nassar, a former Michigan State University doctor, was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison on January 24, 2018 for the sexual abuse involving more than 160 young gymnasts over the span of 20 years. The first to come forward about the abuse she faced was Rachael Denhollander.
Nassar manipulated these girls into thinking he was treating them and healing their pains when all he really was doing was causing them a greater deal of pain.
He pleaded guilty to 10 molestation charges in November and in December. He was sentenced to 60 years in a separate case that stemmed from more than 37,000 images and videos of child pornography found on his computer.
More than 150 victims addressed Nassar directly during his sentencing.
Elite gymnasts such as Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber and McKayla Maroney were present to make their statements.
“You took advantage of our passions and our dreams. I am here to face you, Larry, so you can see I have regained my strength. That I am no longer a victim, I am a survivor. I am no longer that little girl you met in Australia,” Raisman said to Nassar.
On Monday, February 5, 2018, Larry Nassar was sentenced to another 125 years in prison for seven counts of felony criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.
