On February 27, 2018, 4-star high school basketball player Shareef O’Neal committed to attend and play for UCLA, reportedJosh Gershon of 247Sports.
O’Neal previously committed to attend the University of Arizona on April 19, 2018, but later de-committed via Twitter on February 24, 2018, due to the FBI probes surrounding the university.
Recently, the NCAA is being called corrupt due to investigations of college players being paid to play for a certain college. O’Neal decided to decommit from UoA after Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com reported FBI wiretapped conversations between Arizona coach Sean Miller and Christian Dawkins. In one case, Miller discussed paying $100,000 to make sure star freshman Deandre Ayton signed with Arizona.
According to 247Sports, the 6’9″ forward is the No. 33 overall player, No. 9 power forward, and No. 4 player from California in the class of 2018.
Shareef’s father, Shaquille O’Neal, attended college at LSU. During Shaquille O’Neal’s Hall of Fame NBA career, he won four championships, three NBA Finals MVPs, and a league MVP.
