Women’s History Month: Ava DuVernay

March marks Women’s History Month. This year The Commentator has decided to create a collection of bios of impactful women in our society. The first is Ava DuVernay, a 45-year-old film director from Long Beach California.
Ms. DuVernay has directed various movies that have not only won awards, but have left an impact on anyone viewing the movie. To name a few of her most popular movies, she has directed Selma, 13th, and Life Itself. Her most recent movie however is A Wrinkle in Time which stars Oprah Winfrey. It was also recently announced that DuVernay will direct the newest D.C comic movie, The New Gods.
Ava Durenay is very influential, as she is a strong black independent woman with her own successful career. Oprah Winfrey even said the following about DuVernay “They see her courage, her bodaciousness, owning herself, in a way that reflects what you want to be the best of yourself.”
